Ink polar bear

Just starting a pen and ink of a polar bear. I confess to being fascinated by the political conventions and the magnetude of Gustaf. I hope all goes better for all the folks in the region, they have certainly suffered mightily for the homes that they love.
The bear will be 9 x 12.
Sold a painting (baby elephant) at the invitational show last Wednesday.

Frankie fresian

Frankie is just about finished. He's over 25 yrs old, grey and the owner asked me to give him a fountain of youth treatment. What a wonderful horse. It was a pleasure to paint him and the owner is
was very happy. I went to the zoo today for some polar bear photos. When I came back I had an invitation to the Artist for Conservation awards and dinner and I was thrilled to have my condor painting featured in the invitation. I'm a very happy person.

coyote

Acrylic done on canvas pad approx. 12 x 12. We have many coyotes who are getting pretty hungry this time of year. I love to hear them and watch them in the field across the road but when they just stand there, next to our fence, looking, longingly at my chickens I know I need to rethink letting the chickens roam. Everything here is dry, yellow, burnt umber, burnt sienna and hot. Acrylics just dry SO fast and the brush sticks to the canvas as you drag it across if not enough paint is on.

2 birds

While in Monterey I was struck how these beautiful black cowbirds seem to dance together as they move from area to area. This is a 16 x 20 acrylic.

contempory lion

Acrylic 16 x 20. Just expressing how hot it is and not much to do but lay around and take it.

Forgotten lemons

This is the daily painting I couldn't load last week. Then got frustrated over my computer ills. As seen, this 14 x 18 is definitely not animal. But it was fun to do. It is acrylic.

Frig art

Yesterday I painted these 8 images for an up and coming show. It's a heavy traffic show but things are slow for everyone so I figured I'd paint on these clear photo magnets. We'll see what happens. It seems that folks are also looking for some small art that they can just afford. My thought is to paint something that might lead into something else. My alley cats lead into a really big project. I know daily painting is just that but I've been doing lots of preliminary sketch work for the interior murals.

Comic con

Unfortunately 2 items I sold at Comic Con I did not photograph. One cartoon (vulture) and one 9 x 12, acrylic (contemporary fish), unframed painting. Lots of very interesting art work. 125,000 attendees. The art show is held upstairs and artwork always sells. Fascinating event. Already planning on next year. Delivered 6 paintings to the St Clair Gallery invitational show on Fri. Show opens Aug. 5 through Sept 19. The Freisian horse was just the most spectacular and kindest horse. Need to get busy.

returning

Got a little side tracked with family and art events. Invited to a invitational only show for August and Sept. Sent off 3 images to a contemporary animal art exhibit. One being this quick prickly image (16 x 20, acrylic) . Doing lots of daily painting/sketching. Got a call to do murals as a result of the Alley Cat paintings. More on that later. Attending Comic Con and have paintings and cartoons in the Art Show along with hundreds . So many fun and talented people under one roof (125,000 sold out ). And such fun and bizarre stuff - a shoppers delight - if only I was taller. It's hard to see over some of those costumes which took alot of artistic talent. Doing Friesian horse photos tomorrow morning for a horse commission.

Slo fest

The Alley Cat fest was fun but so slow. The economy, hot temp and high gas prices got the blame. I sold a small watercolor, an acrylic and a few photo cards. Onward, looking towards better days. One of our local, long running galleries, framing shop is closing after 33 yrs. simply due to lack of business.

Alley cat quickies

Two acrylic 5" x 5" canvas quickies for the Friday/Saturday event. Hopefully it won't be in the 90's. It's been hovering in the high 80's. Will arrange stocking kitty above hummingbird on display board. Also working on cartooning for Comic Con which begins the 24th.

Another day

Well, I decided against taking the koi fish. Took another painting instead, small frame. Positive comments about painting but no award. Enter another day. Plan now for next year. Finished adding varnish to alley cats.

Fish day

Needed something to enter into a miniature contest at the Fair tomorrow. So koi fish are colorful and there is a pond full of them at the retirement home where my mother lives. So after the Fair these may land over there. It is acrylic, 5" x 7". Last year the competition was great. I got an Honorable mention with a bear painting and was happy. We'll see.

cats for Alley cat days

Finished all requested areas to paint comic cats in alley so today I did two 5" x 5" paintings for the event. One silly kitty from the alley and one that may appeal to someone. (It's really my cat, Sasha ,with different eye color) $20 cartoon. $25 impression.

Pretty ugly

Actually I find the California condor a really handsome bird. He's off to a juried show today. Acrylic, 11" x 14". I support various conservation programs and give 20% of any sale to the organization that supports the particular animal or bird I have painted. Any thing from this condor would go to Defenders of Wildlife. More time spent cleaning up the studio than painting.

Plein air contest

2 daily paintings. Participated in the Del Mar County Fair plein air competition with 56 others and won an award (donated award 4 tickets to the Contemporary Museum of Art in La Jolla) not the big $ but that's okay. I had the only cows. Everyone did wonderful scenes of the fairgrounds. Beautiful stuff. I'm very flattered to have won in this seasoned group of artists with my cows. The size is 16 x 20, acrylic . The little alpaca was humming away the majority of the time I was painting so I had to paint her (12 x 12) too.

Day 3

Just a little fellow painted, 10" x 8", painted on return from Tanzania, last month.
Still painting silly felines for a festival (limited by 90+ temps)

Day 2

Up at 5:30 and on the road, painting at 6 a.m. This is not the fine art, but a community project to develope a section of town into a art center. It's called "Alley Cat Art". Several businesses, resturants, newspaper, galleries (St. Madeline Sofies, Olaf Weighorst), frame shop: Silver Creek Gallery decided to gussy up the back of an alley for a weekend event. This will be the 3rd year and to be held July 11 and 12. The first year of the event I decorated a trash bin with jazz cats, believing it would simple be fun and go bye-bye. Surprise! Now I've been asked to paint alley cats from one end to the other because they know I believe in community spirite and am a wildlife artist. I can really make the wildlife wildly silly and get away with it. The temp yesterday was 102. Needless to say, I paint only for 1 - 2 hrs. then wash up for the next morning. I've done this daily for 5 days and will add photos.

Day one

Daily painter. Yes, that's me. I've been painting daily for some time now. Great, satellite problems with oading images. I'll just try back.
